On Rights

I have to admit I can't stand the attitude "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." And with last week's tragedy, there are lots of people posting things like this on Facebook. Unfortunately Facebook doesn't have a "dislike" button. Sure it takes a crazy monster to do what was done last week but put that same crazy monster in a theater with a few knives instead of guns and he would have hurt significantly fewer people. I understand there is a place for guns. People need them to hunt. People need them to protect their homes (not sure I buy into that theory, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt). But people do not need the types of guns that this guy was able to get his hands on. Pure and simple.

But... Guns do not kill people. People kill people.

I think I'm sick.

As my neighbor tried to explain it to me the other day, not that I asked...

Rocks were the world's first assault weapon. Now "Liberals" (she used air quotes) want to take away her guns, and probably rocks, too. Cain murdered Abel, not a rock.

I told her that I only want to ban civilian sales of semi-automatic rocks and guns, and high capacity magazines. However, in the spirit of compromise, I will give on the assult weapons if we can just reinstate the 10 round limit from the AWB days. Besides, reloading is totally part of the fun, right?

NOOOOOOOO!!! Hitler nicely asked people to give up their guns and ammo then, well, YOU KNOW. How would we defend ourselves???

And so once again I find myself ignoring the doorbell, even when it's too late to shush the kids...

Yeah, I don't get it either. Hugs.

I think that people should be able to have only the weapons that were available at the time the second amendment was drafted.
Since that is not the case, and weapon ownership scares so many people, then why can't I make sarin gas or nuclear weapons? Even a truck bomb would scare people, if they knew there was one next door, right? There has to be moderation. Unless you plan to go to war, you shouldn't have war-grade weapons floating around. It makes no sense. I'm not allowed to own radioactive materials because they're dangerous to the public - likewise for military weapons.
